It seems we are all getting more and more attached to things: the newest cell phone, fit-bit, computers, drama, content, dependent-relationships, new relationships, crisis & mayhem, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts, prescription medication, illegal drugs and other substances. Why have we become a needier race? What is it about this time that has us all so hypo-active on dependency? Your guess is as good as mine. Here’s my guess: because we are needing more and more of everything, as life in many ways gets easier and more conveniences are at our finger tips.
In ancient days people had to fight for everything, even the food on their plates. Their lives were more a matter of survival. In ancient Rome even being a virgin, keeping your body apart from others, was revered; case in point The Vestal Virgins, a group of women who lived aloof from society, in a temple of their own, where they lit lamps and maintained the integrity of Rome by keeping their bodies pure. Of course, this may be taking the concept of unattached too far!
How I stay foot loose and fancy free: I keep it simple. Want less, have less.
